While I had one baby with me, and other babies in the cradle, I would work 12 hour shifts cleaning floors and tear off wallpaper. Ha! It was beginning to make sense, but was far from finished. In order to furnish the house would be an enormous undertaking with regards to budget and time. I would also have to do my favourite shopping. In order to stay within my budget, I started going to estate sales with my three sons to find jewels in the rough. We had a weekly schedule that consisted of spending the week of Thursday to Saturday scouring estate and garage sales, purchasing new and old objects. The rest of the week working on painting and sanding the driveway. The look was a little like this... Here's the place where my passion for in the process of restoring old furniture got started. I continued to restore furniture long after we completed the renovation of our home. There was an area in the market in which I sold my items. Then I bought more that I could decide how to use them and had outgrown the space. Then I began hosting open houses at my house where over 1 000 people would come through in one weekend, and purchase anything they wanted on the first floor. Growing Days is the result of this. My company was flourishing and my family was growing too. There was a perfect balance between starting a new business and becoming a mother. Growing Days just fit. It was in 2013 when my beautiful daughter Nora joined our 4th child. The direction of my business was great, but I was forced to rest for a while. I decided to step back and stay at home, spending time with my family. This was precisely what I needed at that time. It rang once more after a while. I started receiving requests from people requesting to help with their home improvement and design of interiors. A majority of these were people who had been through my property during open houses for furniture! As I went along I began adding clients to my list in a series of. It wasn't too long before I managed several clients, and had a profitable home improvement business. If you had told me that my business would be the basis for a DIY Network show, I likely would have thought you were crazy. In the present, as I think about the circumstances and think about it, I laugh.
